Airbnb pet fee calculator (floor, drag ceiling, flat vs nightly)
Enter incremental pet-turnover cost and a furnishing/risk allowance. The tool builds a cost floor, a heuristic fee-drag ceiling (~15% of ADR × average stay), a suggested flat-fee band, optional flat vs per-night crossover, and grosses the floor up for Airbnb’s host fee (default 15.5%) so the listed pet fee can still net your floor after the fee. Free, no signup, runs in your browser. Fee rules last checked against Airbnb’s pages on 2026-10-03.
1 · Pet cost floor
Floor = incremental pet clean + allowance. Use your cleaner’s pet quote and a pad for wear — not a profit claim.
2 · Stay & fee settings
3 · Flat vs per-night candidates (optional)
Crossover nights ≈ flat ÷ nightly. Leave either at 0 to skip crossover. Airbnb says a pet fee is added into the nightly price and spread evenly across nights (source 1).
4 · Displayed nightly drag (flat fee spread)
Uses the grossed-up listed floor (or your candidate flat if higher and set) spread across 2 / 3 / 5 / 7 night stays — what guests effectively see added per night when a flat pet fee is amortized.
Cost floor = incremental pet-turnover cost + furnishing/risk allowance. It is a break-even target for the net you want from the pet fee, before deciding how to list it.
Drag ceiling (heuristic) ≈ (drag % ÷ 100) × ADR × ALOS. Default 15% is a host rule of thumb from fee-drag strategy guides — not an Airbnb policy or ranking rule. Edit the %.
Suggested flat band runs from the cost floor up to the drag ceiling (when ceiling ≥ floor). If your floor already exceeds the ceiling, the tool flags that — raise ADR, cut pet cost, or accept more fee drag.
Gross-up = listed pet fee such that after the host fee on that fee you still net the floor: grossUp(floor). At 15.5%, roughly floor ÷ 0.845. Untick the checkbox if your payout shows otherwise.
Flat vs nightly crossover = flat candidate ÷ nightly candidate. Stays shorter than crossover pay less with a flat fee; longer stays pay less with a nightly fee (guest total arithmetic only).
Displayed nightly drag = listed flat pet fee ÷ nights. Airbnb states the pet fee is added into the nightly price and spread evenly (source 1).
Service animals are not pets. Airbnb does not allow a pet fee for service animals (source 1). This tool is for pet fees only.
Not modelled: taxes, guest-side fees, AirDNA demand premiums, search ranking, or breed/weight rules. Not tax, legal, or listing-optimization advice.
Questions
Does Airbnb take a cut of the pet fee?
On the single-fee structure the host fee is deducted from the booking subtotal. Airbnb’s Resource Center states that service fees are a percentage of nightly price plus host-added fees like cleaning (source 2). Industry practice treats other host-added fees the same way — confirm on a payout in your own earnings dashboard. Untick the checkbox above if yours differs.
Flat fee or per night?
This page only shows the arithmetic: crossover nights and how a flat fee amortizes over 2/3/5/7 nights. It does not recommend one structure. Short stays make a flat fee a larger share of the total guests see.
What is the “15% drag ceiling”?
A editable heuristic (default 15% of ADR × ALOS) used by some host pricing guides as an upper bound so the pet fee does not dominate the displayed total. It is not published by Airbnb as a limit.
Can I charge a pet fee for service animals?
No. Airbnb’s hosting-pets resource says service animals are not pets and you cannot charge a pet fee for them (source 1).
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The arithmetic runs in your browser; nothing you type is transmitted or stored.
